Ask the assistant

Ask about your projects, sessions, and pins in a chat, and let the assistant organize them once you confirm each change.

5 min
Visual example: The assistant answers in a side panel and proposes each change on a card, so nothing in the workspace moves until you confirm.

What the assistant is

The assistant is a chat inside Pinar, in the local app and in Pinar Cloud. It answers questions about your projects, collections, sessions, batches, and pins, including what appears in a pin’s screenshot.

It can also organize your work: create, rename, move, and delete items, comment on pins, and conclude or reopen them. It always does this through a proposal, and nothing changes until you confirm it.

2

Open the assistant

In the workspace, choose the “Assistant” button at the top of the page to open the chat panel. Type in “Ask the assistant…” and press Enter to send; Shift+Enter starts a new line.

If AI is not set up yet in the local app, the panel shows “Open AI settings”. In Pinar Cloud without Pro, it shows “See plans”.

3

What you can ask

Ask in your own words about anything you have captured. Here are some example questions and requests:

  • “Which pins in the Checkout collection are still open?”
  • “What does the screenshot of pin 3 show?”
  • “Move the sessions about the header to the Design collection.”
  • “Conclude pin 2 and comment that the fix is live.”
4

Nothing changes until you confirm

When you ask for a change, the assistant answers with a card that describes it. Nothing changes until you choose “Confirm”; choose “Decline” to drop it. A card that waits too long expires, and you can ask again.

Some actions can be undone from the same card: after they run, the card shows “Undo” and how long it remains available. Actions that cannot be undone are marked “Can’t be undone” before you confirm.

5

In the local app

The local app uses the AI you set up in Settings → AI Assistant and spends no Pinar credits. Without a semantic search model, the assistant searches your pins by their text.

6

In Pinar Cloud: Pro and credits

In Pinar Cloud, the assistant is part of Pro. Each message you send uses 3 AI credits, and a reply that fails gives them back. Confirming or undoing a proposal uses no credits.

These are the same credits that voice transcription uses, and credit packs can only be bought with Pro. Pinar Cloud AI credits for voice and the assistant explains balances and refunds.

7

Let Pinar choose the collection

In Settings → “Capture”, turn on “Choose the collection automatically”. Pinar then picks a collection for each new capture among the ones you already have; when it is not sure, the capture goes to the “Inbox”. Captures from the same batch stay together. The option needs AI to be available. If the option stays on while AI is not available, new captures go to the “Inbox”; to choose the destination yourself, turn the option off. In Pinar Cloud, each capture whose collection the AI chooses uses 1 AI credit; a failed or expired choice gives it back, and without a credit balance the AI is not called and the capture goes to the “Inbox”. Pinar Cloud AI credits for voice and the assistant explains balances and refunds.

  • A session filed this way shows a small mark. Point at it or focus it to read “Filed automatically. Move to correct.”
  • If the collection is wrong, move the session to the right one. That corrects the choice and removes the mark.
8

Privacy

The comments and screenshots the assistant uses go to the AI provider you set up in the local app, or to Pinar’s AI providers in Pinar Cloud, where the screenshot is also used to describe the pin and make it searchable; Where your data lives has the details.
